오늘 아침에 FM 라디오를 들으면서 출근하다가 우연히 이 사람에 대해서 들었다. 왜 아직까지 몰랐을까.. "감동"이라는 한 단어로 표현하기에는 너무도 인상적인 performance가 있었다. 그동안 매우 바쁘게 지내느라 블로그를 통 update하지 못했지만, 이번만은 그냥 지나칠 수가 없어서 몇 자 적어 본다. 레미제라블의 "I dreamed a dream"이 이렇게 아름다운 곡 이었을 줄이야.. 47세의 Susan Bolye이 자신의 "dream"을 꼭 이룰 수 있기를 진심으로 바란다.

뻔한 이야기 하지 말자

뻔한 결말, 다 아는 이야기 하지 말고 Detail에 집중하자. Detail에 촛점을 맞추려면 무엇이 문제인지 알아야 하고 그 문제를 어떻게 풀 수 있을 지 아이디어를 무수하게 낼 수 있어야 한다. 아이디어가 나오면 비로소 해결책을 만들어 낼 수 있을 테고.. 자, 만약 그래도 해결책이 안나오면 다시 처음으로 되돌아 가자.

멀지 않은 100 기가비트 이더넷

Internet2와 ESNet, 그리고 인피네라, 쥬니퍼 네트웍스, 레벨3 등이 공동으로 100 기가비트 이더넷 테스트베드를 "공격적으로 (aggressively)" 구축할 계획이라고 한다. 일반적인 Internet과 다르게 연구망의 주 트래픽이 "단일 스트림 (single stream)"임을 감안하면 현재 이들 선진 연구망에서 제공하는 가장 큰 단위의 대역폭인 10Gbps가 멀지 않아 꽉 차게 될 거라고 예상되고 있다. IEEE는 2010년 중반을 목표로 100GE의 표준화를 추진하고 있지만 "advanced research network" 이라는 이름이 무색하지 않게 2009년이 되기도 전에 "연구실 기술"을 "현장 기술"로 가져오려는 이들의 시도는 과연 다르다라는 생각을 하게 한다. 자세한 내용은 여기를 참조하길 바란다.
